New Albany only had three seniors to recognize on senior night, but all three went out on a high note as they all recorded goals in the sweep of Ripley. Katelyn Watson had a hat trick with her three goals and Hannah Anderson also scored. Aaron Catt, the lone senior on the boys team, scored on a one on one opportunity early in the boys match.

The Lady Bulldogs wasted little time putting the girls contest out of reach as Katelyn Watson took only four minutes to score three goals and put New Albany up 3-0. Watson scored seven minutes in, then in the 10th minute and again in the 11th minute.

New Albany went to wholesale substitution after the third goal as all starters were lifted for almost 15 minutes. When the starters were put back in, the scoring started again.

Kristen Olson found the back of the net in the 27th minute and Sanders Goode followed a minute later with another goal to extend the lead to 5-0.

Hannah Anderson scored the final goal in the 37th minute as she played a pass from Martha Vance Alef into the net. That would wrap up the scoring for the half and the match as New Albany rested their starters in the second half and allowed the younger members of the team get some valuable playing experience.

Seniors Watson and Anderson commented on their playing experience following the match: “It’s been bittersweet, we’ve come a long way from what we’ve been and Coach Vogel has helped us out tremendously. I hope we can make it to state”(championship) said Watson. Anderson added “It’s been good, it’s been a good run. I’m real excited to have Coach Vogel come along and we’ve really improved since he’s gotten here and I hope that we can keep up the good work and make it to state.”

The New Albany boys went into their match with Ripley needing to win by five goals to force a tie breaker with Corinth to another scenario or could win the division title outright with a six goal victory margin. The Bulldogs had two goals by the 19th minute, but could do no further damage to the scoreboard and settled for a 2-0 win and second place in division.

Aaron Catt celebrated his senior night with a goal in the sixth minute to help the Bulldogs take an early 1-0 lead. Catt broke free from the defender and dribbled into the left post side of the box. Catt made a perfectly placed shot across the mouth of the goal inside the right post of the goal. Jose Favela had an assist on the play. Joe Rainey scored the second goal for the Bulldogs in the 19th minute.

Keeper Mason Chapin had some major saves in the goal for the night. Perhaps the biggest save was on a penalty kick after New Albany was charged with a foul in the box in the 25th minute. Another big play from Chapin came in the final minute of the first half as he snagged a shot on goal to turn away one final Ripley attack.

Neither team was able to hit net during the second half and the Bulldogs took the hard-fought 2-0 win. New Albany finished with 11 shots and five on goal. Chapin had five saves in the goal for the Bulldogs.

New Albany finished first in their division and the girls will host Amory. New Albany boys will host Pontotoc.
