The Biscuits and Jam Farmers’ Market has kicked off its second season on a vacant property between Fred’s and the Tallahatchie River Bridge.
Moving the Saturday morning event to the prominent downtown spot last year turned out to be very successful.
The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. each Saturday until sometime in August. It features locally grown produce, processed farm goods, canned fruits and vegetables, home-baked goods and local handmade crafts.
Sugaree’s Bakery and High Point Coffee are the local sponsors.
Also this year, the market will be open until noon each second Saturday (June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10) for something called Folk Art on the River. Local folk artists will have their art for sale and live bluegrass music will be featured.
Consolidating and expanding the market into one spot downtown last year was a good idea. We’re confident this year’s expanded market will do even better.
It’s all part of getting more people downtown while providing good quality local produce and other goods.
