Hunting parties to Lafayette Springs and good food were the order of the day. Jim and Betty Swords Pierce called from Cleveland, Ohio, to extend greetings. The couple sent Dirk Dowdy great cookies from Ohio’s Cheryl’s Bakery. This group was especially thankful for Maggie’s first Christmas as she had open heart surgery at LeBonheur in June as an infant.

The grandchildren and I cut a large cedar tree which we had to put up outside; so they could have the experience of harvesting a native tree. I forgot the law of cedars as it was in a thicket. It was a beautiful one-sided tree that we had to place against a wall, but it was a memory-maker.
