Carrying on a family tradition and helping Myrtle in its run for another state championship in cross country, Kitana High led the Lady Hawks in its division meet last Saturday and is the Gazette Player of the Week.
The eighth grader led Myrtle at the division meet last week, finishing first with a time of 16:43. High is also looking at a potential individual title in 1A after finishing second at state in 2011.
“She’s really surprised me. I noticed her improvement when she ran in the sixth grade, and last year she really progressed and finished second in the state last year,” Myrtle coach Chris Greer said. “She’s been strong in every race this year after a mix-up on the course in the first race. We’re not worried about winning state as an individual this year; we just want her to run her best time and see what happens.”
