Eloise Conlee Newell, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany.
She was born Sept. 27, 1916, to Larkin and Annie Bell Hale Conlee. She was a member of Laodicea Primitive Baptist Church in Lafayette Springs. She was a department supervisor for Rivera Manufacturing, a florist and had also worked at the Pontotoc County Library. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club. An expert quilter and gardener, she loved flowers and enjoyed Sacred Harp music. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Ken Goodrich and Elder Steve Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Jill Smith of New Albany; one brother, Larkin (Martha Jean) Conlee of Fayetteville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, including locally Robin Roberts, Rose Smith, Elliot Smith, Zack Hudson, Kevin Hudson, Laura Colcomb and Roger Newell Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren, including three locally; nieces, Lynn Conlee, Cheryl Conlee and Becky Maxwell; and a cousin and close friend, Janie Luther.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Newell, in 1981; two daughters, Anita Weeks and Robin Hudson; one son, Roger Newell; her parents; and two brothers, Kirwin Conlee and Bobby Conlee.
Pallbearers will be Zack Hudson, Kevin Hudson, Mason Hudson, Don Russell, Doug Swords and Josh Roberts.
Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Laodicea Primitive Baptist Church or the Pontotoc County Library.
