Cotton States Baseball League seeks host families

The BNA Bank Cotton States Baseball League is excited to announce that they will be seeking Host Families for the upcoming 2012 season.  Only in their fourth year of operation, the CSBL has garnered interest from across the country and would like to offer between 18 – 20 spots for various college players to be housed for the summer so that they can showcase their talents in this 6 team collegiate wood-bat league.

The league features some of the top college players from across the region, who must be freshmen, sophomores, or juniors playing on their respective college or university’s baseball team.  With the addition of the Host Family program, the league will be adding a crucial element in attracting talented players from across the country so that the league can continue to provide their fans with exciting, high-level competitive games.

Summer collegiate leagues across the nation typically report that being a Host Family is very rewarding.  It is not uncommon for players to establish a long-term relationship with their Host Family for years afterward.  “We are still close to the young man we hosted several summers ago,” noted CSBL Commissioner Sam Creekmore.  “We are making plans to attend his wedding next month.  The whole experience is very enjoyable and we would like to see more families have the opportunity to get to know some of these fine young men as they work toward a professional career,” he added.

Additionally, in the CSBL, season passes will be provided in exchange for assuming this important responsibility or, if the family has a child participating in either the CSBL or the Cotton States High School League, they will receive half off of their league entry fees.

In return, Host Families are entrusted by the CSBL, the players’ parents, and their respective colleges to provide a clean, comfortable, private bedroom with access to the family’s bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities.  It is expected that a pleasant relationship will exist much like with a visiting guest, including the use of a TV/DVD, some meals, etc.  Each relationship will have its own dynamics but the goal is for a mutually positive experience for the player and the family with the CSBL available for support and/or guidance.

The BNA Bank Cotton States Baseball League operates in June and July at the BNA Bank Park in New Albany and features players from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Memphis, Arkansas State, Tennessee Tech, Delta State, Blue Mountain College (just to name a few) and area junior colleges.  For more information about the league or to inquire about becoming a Host Family for 2012, please send the league an e-mail through their website (www.cottonstatesleague.com) or contact the league at (662) 539-2440 no later than November 15, 2011.
