Snow, ice causes havoc for Union County residents

Union County was hit once again with a heavy mix of snow and ice Wednesday afternoon and evening, causing the closings of both New Albany and Union County schools, as well as local businesses, on Thursday.

The wintry build-up on roads throughout the county also caused havoc for motorists.  Union County Sheriff Tommy Wilhite said his deputies had worked numerous incidents where cars had slid off roads.  The New Albany Police Department was also working accidents nearly non-stop from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.
According to Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Ray Hall, approximately 10 18-wheelers had jacknifed along Highway 78  during the night and early morning.
