Basketball league begins at Ingomar

INGOMAR – Fans that are in need of a high school sports “fix” only need to drive to Ingomar during the next few weeks to catch prep action in boys and girls basketball plus fast pitch softball.

Girls basketball hit the hardwood on Tuesday with a full slate of games, 15 in total. Union County teams participating included East Union, West Union and host Ingomar.

Tuesday’s action saw 10 area girls teams playing 16 minute halves with a running clock to keep the scrimmages moving at a swift pace. Perennial powers in girls basketball that played on Tuesday included Pontotoc, Itawamba and Ripley. League play will be every Tuesday during June.

Boys basketball action will begin on Friday, June 6 with the first game starting at 9:00. The final game scheduled for the day is at 7:00 as Ingomar and New Albany face off. Myrtle and East Union will also play during the afternoon. West Union will join the boys schedule the following week.

Fast pitch fans will be able to catch games at Ingomar each Thursday during June. Local teams from Ingomar, Myrtle and New Albany will be featured every week. Games will be six innings or one hour and 20 minutes in length.

East Union fast pitch will play at ICC and Mooreville weekly with Amory, Mooreville, IAHS and Smithville being the opponents.

The summer league programs allow teams to work on improving their game and team chemistry as well as furnishing quality competition as opponents.
