‘Shrek’ to be presented this weekend
Shrek the Musical, A production of Union County Schools Theater, will be performed at the Magnolia Civic Center
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, Oct 20, at 2:00 p.m.
Ticket prices are adults $10 and children $5. Call the Union County Administration Office at 534-1960 to reserve your tickets.

Corinth to host Indian artifact show
The Corinth Indian Artifact Show will be Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Arena, 2800 South Harper Road, Corinth. It is billed as featuring a wide variety of some of the finest prehistoric Native American artifacts collected from Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and other regions. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Magnolia State Archaeological Society.

Indians showing talent
“Indians Got Talent,” will be presented at 7 p.m., Oct. 30, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium on the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. This is a fundraiser for the Miss Itawamba Community College program. General admission is $3. For more information, call (662) 862-8153.

First Choice to have benefit holiday market, auction
Kick off your holiday shopping at the 3rd annual First Choice Silent Auction and Holiday Market showcasing vendor booths from area merchants Nov. 14 at the New Albany Presbyterian Church on Hwy 15 South. Admission is free. The event will last from 4-8 p.m. BBQ plates will be sold for $10 each; carry-out plates are available. Presale tickets can be purchased from staff, volunteers and board members. Liberty school annual reunion
Liberty school annual reunion will be Saturday, October 19 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a covered-dish meal. Southern Comfort band will provide the entertainment. Everyone is welcome.

Northside Baptist Church Homecoming
Homecoming at Northside Baptist church will be Sunday, October 20th at 9 a.m. Bro. W.L. Oaks will be preaching. The Unity Four will be singing. We will have a fellowship meal after service.

Hill Country Halloween and Chili Cook-Off with the Tallahatchie Zombie Run
New Albany Main Street Association will host Hill Country Halloween and Chili Cook-Off with the Tallahatchie Zombie Run Downtown on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be fun for the whole family with a Halloween carnival, zombie run, costume contest, chili cook-off and entertainment by the Spunk Monkees. Liberty Church to host Forsyth benefit
Liberty Baptist Church is hosting a benefit supper and auction for Justin Forsyth and family. Justin will be at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas receiving treatment for cancer the next several months. The benefit is Oct. 19 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1298 CR 107 New Albany. BBQ and hamburger plates will served. Plates are $7.00. Serving time will start at 4:00 p.m. and the auction will begin at 6:00 p.m.

TCT again presenting Haunted Theatre
Tupelo Community Theatre’s eighth annual Haunted Theatre will be presented Oct. 17-19, 24-26, and 31 at the Lyric Theatre in Downtown Tupelo. Tickets are $15 each and the Haunted Theatre begins at 7 p.m. each evening. The Haunted Theatre is not recommended for children under the age of 10. Compassionate Friends chapter to meet
Families who have experienced the death of a child are invited to attend The Compassionate Friends meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center classroom, 1030 S. Madison. The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward resolving grief following the death of a child of any age and to help others be supportive. Bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents and immediate family members are welcome to attend. The Compassionate Friends organization offers friendship and understanding to bereaved families. Chapter meetings offer an opportunity for bereaved families to express their feelings, as well as for those who have worked through their grief to help other families through their loss. Grief Support Groups
Amedisys Hospice currently offers three grief support groups throughout its service area. Booneville Support Group- meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the George E. Allen Library. New Albany Support Group- meets every 2nd Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the New Albany First United Methodist Church. Tupelo Support Group- begins January 18, 2011, and a set date will be announced. These groups are open to the public and are free of charge. You are welcome at any meeting that Amedisys Hospice offers. Drug and Alcohol Recovery Meetings
“Pathway To Freedom” is a drug and alcohol recovery program sponsored by The Church of Acts. Meetings are free and are held every Sunday and Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. The “Pathway To Freedom” meetings started in 2005 and have been meeting for the past eight years.
