East Union, Myrtle pick up division wins

The Hawks and Urchins picked up division wins on Tuesday, defeating H.W. Byers (5-4) and Hatley (6-4), respectively.
In Myrtle’s win over Byers, the Lions took an early 3-2 lead after the first with the Hawks taking the win in the final inning.
Austin Floyd improved to 2-0 on the mound with the win, and the senior, along with Anthony Lipsey had multiple hits.
Austin Sanders improved to 2-2 on the mound in the Urchins’ win over Hatley. East Union trailed 2-0 until they tookthe lead with four runs in the fifth inning. The Urchins led 6-2 and held off a rally by the Tigers in the seventh.
Trey Barkley, Duck Pratt and Tray Davis each had multiple hits for East Union (7-7, 2-0), including two doubles and a home run by Davis.
After defeating North Pontotoc, 5-2, on Monday to pick up its first division win, New Albany played Tupelo Christian Prep in a make-up game from the weekend, falling 6-2.
Ken Phillips had a double to lead the Bulldogs’ offense in the loss.
In softball, New Albany defeated Senatobia, 5-4.
The Lady Bulldogs built a 3-1 lead through five innings, capped by a solo home run by Megan Dye.
Heading into the final inning, New Albany led 4-1 only to have Senatobia come back to tie the game.
In the bottom half of the inning, Kayla Pavlick brought in the game-winning run with two outs.
New Albany improved to 7-5 (1-1) with the win.
