Bowlers prepare for state

East Union leads Union County back to the state championships in bowling after finishing first during the regional matches last week.
The Urchins will travel to Jackson as the top seed after defeating West Union in the Baker’s Style finals. The Eagles were in front going into the final, but East Union topped its county rival for the top seed.
East Union’s top bowlers for the regional match were Bailey Spruill, bowling a high game of 208, Zachary Randall with a game high of 204 and Josh Steele with a 203.
In the first year of the school’s program, New Albany boys will travel to Jackson as one of the two wild cards, along with Tupelo Christian Prep.
The Lady Urchins will also go to Jackson as the top seed, defeating defending state champion Itawamba in the Baker’s Style finals.
The Lady Indians edged East Union at the state finals last year, but East Union takes the top seed for this year’s match. West Union will also travel to Jackson as one of the two wild card selections.
High bowlers for the Lady Urchins include Stephanie Hardy, who bowled a high game of 209, followed by Laken Hughes bowling a 206 for her best game and Taylor Dill with a 170.
Pontotoc will also travel as a wildcard for the girls.
The 2012-2013 state championships will take place next Friday, Feb. 22 at Paradise Lanes in Jackson.
