MACEDONIA NEWS BY LOU MCQUARY

Sharon, Terry, Grant, and Emily Hendrix, Kathryn Henderson, and Michelle Thompson flew to San Francisco, Calif. on Aug. 5 and returned on Aug. 12.  They toured the city of San Francisco, including Fisherman’s Wharf in the bay area and the Golden Gate Bridge.  They took a boat ride that left from the wharf, went under the Golden Gate Bridge, and went around Alcatraz.

Riding in cable cars was a highlight of the trip.  They also experienced riding down Lombard Street, the “crookedest street in the world.”  It had to be made that way because of the steepness of the street.  It has eight hairpin turns, and the speed limit is five miles per hour. It is lined with all kinds of beautiful flowers.

They visited Yosemite Park where they bicycled throughout the park, viewing the beautiful granite mountains and waterfalls.  They also toured Sequoia Natural Park, enjoying the tall sequoia trees.

They spent a few days on the west coast at the beautiful coastal city of Carmel.  Nearby they went to the area of Big Sur, viewing the mountainous Pacific area with its huge crashing waves.  I have never been to the west coast, and I’m putting this on my bucket list.

Riley Lambert celebrated his ninth birthday at New Albany Spray Park on Friday, Aug. 10.  Then five friends spent the night with him: Dalton Galloway, Ray Bright, Josh Kent, Eli Kitchens, and Wesley Harrell.  On Saturday morning they enjoyed pancakes and then played on a slip and slide as well as had a wiffle ballgame in the back yard.  Riley is the son of Tasha Lambert.  His birthday was Aug. 18.

Beverly Farr spent two nights in the hospital in Tupelo.  All the doctors could determine is that it must have been a severe migraine. She was able to return to work on Thursday.  Beverly is the wife of Brad Farr.

Betty Carter spent a week in the hospital in Oxford. She had surgery on Monday, Aug. 13 and returned home on Saturday, Aug. 18.  Betty is the wife of James Carter.

Mitchell Jumper’s Sunday School Class ate at Cravin Catfish on Saturday, Aug. 18.  Thirteen adults and three children attended.  Bro. Louie blessed the food and all had a good time.

Sunday was a big day at Macedonia Baptist Church for its homecoming.  At 9 a.m., Unity Four sang.  This group consists of Jacky Feaszel and Roger Brock of Corinth and Steve Parrish and J.C. Johnson of the Tishomingo County area.  They sang Southern gospel songs, and we enjoyed their performance.

At 10 .M. we took a 10-minute break and then had our morning worship.  Bro. Randy Bynum delivered our message.  He is the pastor of Salem Baptist Church.  Randy grew up at Macedonia and surrendered to preach there.  He is the son of Francis Bynum and the late Leon Bynum.  He is married to Sheila Guthrie Childers.

Bro. Randy lost his wife several years ago to cancer, and Sheila lost her husband in 2010 and her oldest child in 2011, so they have both had a considerable amount of tragedy in their lives.   They found each other and married.  We are so happy for both of them.

Randy delivered a moving message on Jesus being with us in our troubles, using the scripture of the disciples being in the boat on the Sea of Galilee, with Jesus on land when the storm hit.  When the boat was tossed on the sea, Jesus saw them even though the disciples couldn’t see Him.  In the same way, Jesus sees us in the midst of our trials.  We are never alone, even when we feel so overwhelmed.

Joshua Baker was ordained into the ministry at First Baptist Church in Hickory Flat on Aug. 19.  Attending from Macedonia were Martha Owen, Larry and Eva Frazier, Lou and Larry McQuary, Bro. Landreth and Margaret Murphree, and Kathryn Henderson.  Bro. Kent Sheperd from Lake Charles, La. gave the charge to Joshua.  Bro. Kent was Joshua’s youth pastor at Macedonia.   Joshua is the son of Annie and Keith Baker.

Thought for the week: God specializes in doing the impossible.
