One full week remains in the Cotton States Baseball high school July League, and four teams are atop of the standings with one loss each.
The Bobcats, Dealers, Rascals and Swampmonsters each have one loss, with the Bobcats leading the way at 7-1. Tuesday’s games featured none of these teams, but saw the BlackPrairie Mudcats defeat the Northeast Mississippi Jets, 15-5, and the DeSoto Xplorers hand the Tippah Tribe its fifth loss in as many outings, 8-3.
In the Jets’ loss to the Mudcats, New Albany’s Jake McDonald led the team with two hits and an RBI. Nick Smith of Lafayette also drove in two runs, and New Albany’s Grant Hogue had an RBI.
In the overall individual standings so far this year, New Albany’s Brandon Montgomery is on top in batting average at .833, but has played in only two games as a fill-in for the Lookouts.
Of the players that have been in at least five games, New Albany’s Wesley Dodds is at .500 with six hits and three RBI. Ingomar’s Joseph Broom is at .368 with seven hits, a triple and three RBI.
Ingomar’s Tyler Dowdy is on top in the league in pitching, boasting a win and is one of six pitchers currently with a 0.00 ERA. In his one game, Dowdy had 10 strikeouts, four hits and two walks.
This weekend will feature 17 games at BNA Bank Park, beginning with the Generals and Lakers at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
The July League will end on Sunday, July 29, with six games slated for the day.
