There’s an unusual event happening downtown this Saturday. The New Albany Main Street Association has scheduled something called “Upstairs Downtown.”
It’s an opportunity to be nosy, to get a feel for what living downtown would be like by touring some of the apartments above our downtown businesses.
It’s a logical follow-up to the feature story about downtown living in the spring/summer issue of New Albany Magazine, the Gazette’s twice-a-year community magazine.
Residents of seven of the downtown living spaces have agreed to open their places for tours, which will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the tour and tour guides will be available.
Tickets can be purchased in advance this week at the Main Street Association office at 135 Bankhead St. Tickets also will be available Saturday in Cooper Park, where the tour guides will be available to help you get from one apartment to another.
As part of the downtown event, merchants are holding a customer appreciation days event on Thursday. Friday and Saturday.
Some businesses are having sales or special offers, and customers can register at participating businesses for door prizes.
Saturday’s downtown tour is one of several new events created in the past year by the Main Street Association to help market downtown. New Albany’s downtown is thriving and the envy of many other communities.
We invite you to join us downtown Saturday to peek into some of the unique living spaces – and businesses – that downtown has to offer.
