2011-2012 All-Union County basketball team announced

 Twenty athletes were named All-Union County, selected by the coaches at each school this week.

Leading the girls’ selections are five from Myrtle, that led the Lady Hawks to the 1A north half semifinals.

Led by Austin Peay signee Aspriona Gilbert, the Lady Hawks finished the season at 28-7, winning the Union County Tournament. Gilbert led Myrtle in points, rebounds and blocks. The original starting lineup for Coach Chris Greer’s squad made the All-County roster: Gilbert, Halle Knowles, Jenna Jordan, Meshay Cox and Kiana Judon. Cox is the lone starter returning for Myrtle next season.

New Albany placed two on the All-County roster, highlighted by junior Jazmine Spears. The Dandy Dozen selection led the Lady Bulldogs in every statistical category last season. Along with Spears, New Albany was represented by senior Alisha Smith. Smith averaged 7.3 points per game, complimenting Spears in the lineup.

Rounding out the girls’ selections are Samantha Bridges of West Union, Ashley Leach of East Union and Reid Little of Ingomar. Honorable mentions for the girls include West Union’s Julianna Garner and Mallory Adair of Ingomar.

New Albany led the boys’ selection, naming three, including Dandy Dozen selection Moses Kingsley.

The Bulldog trio of Kingsley, Daniel Drummond and Eric Chaney were the top three scorers, averaging 12.4, 12.2 and 11 points per game. New Albany finished the season winning its second consecutive Union County Tournament title, as well as making the north half playoffs.

Myrtle was represented by Robert Montgomery and Keon Hampton, who led the Hawks in scoring last season as well as an appearance in the north half tournament. Montgomery averaged 23.5 points per game, along with nine rebounds and four steals a game, all team highs. Hampton followed Montgomery in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game.

In one of the best seasons in recent years, the Urchins named Chris Tables and Trey Barkley to the list. Tables and Barkley finished averaging 13.5 and 13.2 points per game respectively for East Union.

Making another appearance in the playoffs, Ingomar was represented by Steven Foster and Henry Foster and the list was rounded out by West Union’s Chase Taylor. Honorable mentions for the boys include West Union’s Jimmie Russell, Myrtle’s Jonathan West, East Union’s Dontrell Lattimore and Ingomar’s LaQuain Foster.
