Louise Cates Parnell, 85, of Forest passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Woodland Court Personal Care Center in Newton following a brief bout with pancreatic cancer.
Louise was born Nov. 19, 1926 to Glennie and Alice Little Cates of Humphreys County, Tenn. She married Darce L. Parnell on March 11, 1946. They lived 52 years in New Albany. She was a faithful member of Cleveland Street Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and New Albany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in New Albany. She was a member of the Women of the Church. She worked as a teller at Bank of New Albany for eight years. In October 2008, Louise and Dee moved from New Albany to Forest to be near their daughter. Louise was a member of the Forest Presbyterian Church while living there.
Louise is survived by Darce, her husband of 65 years; her daughter Pat and husband Dr. Kenneth G. Strong of Forest; two granddaughters, Amy Strong Loggins (Roy) of Starkville, and Emily Strong Marlow of Nashville, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Jacob Hunter Loggins of Starkville.
She also is survived by four brothers, James Cates (Kathy) of Melburne, Fl., Dewey Cates (Barbara) of Troy, Ill., Russell Cates (Brenda) of Greeneville, Tenn., George Cates (Mary) of Onsted, Mich., and one sister, Frances Hotchkiss of Norton Shore, Mich.
Visitation were from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at United Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany, followed by services at 1 p.m. Interment was in Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. United Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Jimmie Nell Rawson and her staff at Woodland Court Personal Care Center in Newton for the wonderful care and love shown to their loved one.
