James Herod obituary

James Allen “Smokey” Herod, 57, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at his residence. 

 

He was born Oct. 18, 1954 in New Albany to Katie Mae Dovell Herod and George Willis Herod, Sr.  He retired from New Albany Fire Department after 26 years. He was a member of the Joseph Warren Masonic Lodge #71, a 32 Degree Mason and a York Rite Mason.  He was a member of the Shriner Redneck Clown. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Services were at 11 a.m.  Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Bain officiating.  Interment was in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.  United Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Kidd Herod of New Albany; a brother, Tommy Herod of Memphis; a niece, Jennifer Bedford of Blue Springs; and a nephew, Kevin Scott Herod of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Herod.
Pallbearers were members of the New Albany Fire Department.
In honor of Mr. Herod, United Funeral Service flew the firefighter’s flag during his visitation and service.
