Heading down the stretch toward the State Tournament, the Northeast Lady Tigers and Tigers split a North Division doubleheader with Coahoma Monday night in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum (BAC).
Head Coach David Robbins’ squad secured a spot in the post season by beating Coahoma 105-76 in the nightcap.
“I thought at times we really played well,” Robbins said. “We executed well on both ends of the floor and made good decisions.”
The Tigers were led by freshman Cedric Janes who recorded a double-double, scoring 23 points and snatching down 18 boards–15 rebounds came on the defensive end. Other top performers for Northeast were Robert Wade, who had 25 points and six rebounds, Jermaine Hollimon added 18 points and six boards, followed by Tyler Pritchard’s 17-point effort.
Northeast improved to 10-11 overall and sit at 6-4 in the North Division, while Coahoma dropped to 7-11, 3-6.
In game one, head coach Ricky Ford watched his ladies drop to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in division play, falling to the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers 93-60.
Coahoma entered the game winless in the North Division, but were able to move to 5-13 and 1-8 with the impressive win on the road. Leading the way for Coahoma was Tia Nunnally who scored 26 points along with Ciara Morgan’s 21.
Coahoma shot 55 percent from the floor and captured 19 steals forcing Northeast to turn the ball over 28 times. The Lady Tigers could only hit the mark 26 times on 66 attempts from the hardwood for a season low 30 percent.
Ford’s top scorer was Anna Brooke Page who had 11 points and three rebounds (3-for-7 on the floor) while teammate Erin Strowder added 10 points and six rebounds on the night, shooting 4-of-8 from the floor.
