Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Bonner Arnold Coliseum has been the hotbed of basketball in junior college for years.
For two days in December, Bonner Arnold Coliseum transforms into a hotbed for 18 of the best basketball teams in the state as the Kiwanis Club of Booneville hosts it annual basketball tournament at the legendary gymnasium.
During the flurry of high school basketball activity, Northeast’s men’s basketball team also receives a benefit from the games played in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum as the two-day tournament at Northeast serves as fund-raiser for the program.
Bonner Arnold Coliseum shares the honor with one of the newest facilities in the state as the organization splits 24 games over two games in Northeast’s facility and Booneville High School’s gym.
“This summer we had a meeting with Booneville, Northeast Basketball and our club,” said 2010-11 Booneville Kiwanis Club President Stan Howell, “we decided that it would be a win-win for all involved. We are excited to enter this partnership and really this it will become a premier event in the state.”
Dates for the two-day tournament are Monday, December 20 and Tuesday, December 21.
With games split on one hour and thirty minute limits, organizers have slated six games a day at each of the two sites.
“It’s a great bargain for $5 per person per site,” said Northeast head men’s basketball coach David Robbins. “Fans can go and watch six games per day, per site — that may be the best Christmas deal around.”
Fans will also have a chance to join in on the fun as the organization will hold a raffle for a chance at $100 during halftime shooting contests.
Both days will see the same time schedules with games starting at noon and the final game of the evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. with each contest tipping off in one hour, 30 minute increments at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and finally 7:30 p.m.
