West Union followed a slow offensive effort versus Ingomar on Tuesday with a blowout of Pine Grove, 16-0 on Thursday.
After leaving two runners stranded in the first, The Lady Eagles blasted Canaan Bryan for 11 runs off seven hits in the second.to take the commanding lead. April Rollins led the surge with her three-run triple, scoring Kimberly Jumper, Claire Wilkerson and Amber Maxey to go up 6-0.
Rachel Baker pitched a perfect game for the first three innings before being replaced by Jessica Ganger in the fourth.
Ganger only allowed two hits, while the Lady Eagles’ defense only had one error in the game.
West Union would add four more runs in the fourth and ended the game after five innings of play. Head coach Andy Kirk spent most of the week away from the team sick, but said he noticed a more relaxed squad Thursday.
“They felt the pressure of the early season, and they finally realized it’s still a game, and that’s why we play,” Kirk said. “We tried to have a little more fun and just relax, and it showed tonight. They’re a young team, and we’re lucky we had the hits we needed to pull out a win.”
Claire Wilkerson and Rollins each went 2-for-4 in the game with Rollins walking twice. Ganger, Carley Wilkerson and Gates each went 2-for-3 as well with Ganger walking in the second.
The Lady Eagles will play at Walnut and Hickory Flat this week before participating in the Nettleton Tournament on Saturday.
