NAHS received word Tuesday afternoon from the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) regarding their appeal on the results of the 4A State Tournament held last week. MHSAA ruled in favor of Itawamba, giving them their second state title in three years, while New Albany finished in second. NAHS coach Robert Garrett released this statement on MHSAA’s decision.
“First, I want to congratulate the Itawamba team, Chad Ramey on his 1st place finish, and Coach Nanney on a great 1st season as their coach.
Coach Nanney is an outstanding person who is a great advocate for junior golf in the state of Mississippi. They are now in a position to go back-to-back which would be an outstanding accomplishment.
I respect the decision made by the MHSAA. I also appreciate the effort that Dr. Proctor and his staff put forth as they investigated the matter.
I want to thank my Principal (Jay Foster) and Athletic Director (Shane Sanderson) for their help in this matter. I also want to thank my 3 seniors Austin Holt, Tucker Holmes and Sam Cooper for their incredible run at New Albany.”
This is the second year in a row the Bulldogs have finished second in the state tournament. New Albany also picked up their third straight district crown in 2009.
