Congratulations to Morgan Shettles and to Whitney Owens who were on the President’s List at ICC for the fall semester. 

Congratulations to Daniel Robbins and to Landon Kidd who were on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at the University of Mississippi for the fall semester. 

Featured on TV’s Mississippi Crossroads were Native American artifacts collected by local anthropologist Don Browning.  These items were on display at the Town Square Museum at the time of the broadcast. 

Susan and Brooke Hooker treated Megan Hooker to lunch at Firebird Grill in Collierville, Tenn., for her birthday on Jan. 3. Enjoying the trip also were Sophie, Ella Kate, Aden and Braxton Hooker. 

Birthday wishes to Don Browning, Faye Dillard, and Sallie Weeden. 

Weekend guests of Geraldine Burchfield were Betty Pierce of Strongsville, Ohio, and Nelda Morgan of Hernando. 

A special hello to J.C. Sneed of Lincoln, California, who reads the column each week.  He is the son of the late Luster and Delilah(Williams) Sneed of the community.

Get well wishes to Sherry Warren, Stephenie Warren, and to Jimmie G. Warren.

Bro. Bill and Charlotte Thompson hosted a birthday dinner for their son, Kurt Thompson at their home on Jan. 27.  Also attending were Trudie, Elizabeth and Emme Thompson of Friendship, Clarenda and Zuby Parrish. 

Anniversary wishes to Steve and Betty Stubblefield for Jan. 21. 

Brooke, Colt and Braxton Moore visited with Bernice Gann at her home in Houlka as well as Ellie Moore of Sarepta on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1. 

 A belated expression of sympathy is extended to the family of Slyvia Hearn Russell who was the widow of Albert Wayne Russell of the Shady Grove-Lone Star area.  Survivors include the following:  Sherry Elder, Jeff Russell and Anthony Russell and their families and her mother, Pludie Hearn of Pontotoc. 

 A belated expression of sympathy is extended to the family of Winnie Carol Whitworth who was the wife of Jerry Whitworth of Randolph and the daughter of the late Marvin and Hessie Russell of Sand Springs.  Survivors include a brother, Johhny Buchanan, and a sister, Ethelene Privett,  who reside in Hurricane.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Eurre(Williams) Painter of Memphis who was the sister of Onis Bramlitt of Buchanan and the daughter of the late Lonnie and Addie(Graham) Williams of Sand Springs. 

Sympathy is extended to the family of Nylee(Hunter)Coleman who was the wife of Jewel Coleman of Thaxton and the daughter-in-law of the late Eli and Ethel Coleman of Hurricane. 

Sympathy is extended to the family of Hubert “Doc” Spears(92) was the husband of Jewel (Stafford).  Survivors include Virginia Spears and Royce(Debbie)Spears of Pontotoc and family.  Mr. Hubert was a lifelong resident and from one of the pioneer families that helped establish the community.  Services were at Hurricane Baptist Church.  Interment was in Bethel Cemetery. 

Sympathy is extended to the family of Clara Heatherly Warren who was the widow of Guy Warren.

They were our neighbors at Cane Creek in the 1950’s.  Survivors include a daughter, Joyce(John)Grisham of Ingomar  and family.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Bonnie Williams of Jackson.

(Community Yesteryear’s)Community residents Shorty Graham and Charlie Hicks attended the LBJ Inauguration in Washington, D.C. 

(Class of 1949-Hurricane High School)Top scholars were Valedictorian Mary Joyce Dowdy  and Salutatorians Ruby Jeaul Russell and Betty Jean Bolden.

The youth of Shady Grove Baptist Church will be having a fundrasiser on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at 4 pm.

On the menu will be Grilled Chicken Breast or Pork Loin served with baked potato,salad,drink and dessert.
