EU-Myrtle celebrate senior night

Baldwyn 52 (g)

East Union’s foul trouble could have cost them the game, but missed free throws and easy baskets came back to haunt the Lady Bearcats, as East Union held on for the 63-52 win on senior night.

The Lady Urchins committed 10 fouls in the third quarter after building a 34-22 halftime lead. Up 46-28 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Baldwyn worked their way back into the game, and cut East Unions lead to eight with 2:32 remaining in the game.

Clutch shots and free throws helped the Lady Urchins in the stretch, as they held on for the win, despite being outscored 22-17 in the final quarter.

Sunnie Knighton led East Union with 14, followed by Stephanie Dillard with 12 and Tosha Graham with 12, with nine of her points scored in the third.

New Albany 76

Hickory Flat 65 (g)

After dropping only their second game of the season, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back on the road at Hickory Flat Tuesday night.

NAHS carried a 67-36 lead into the fourth quarter, and were able to hold off a comeback by the Lady Rebels, as Hickory Flat outscored the Lady ‘Dawgs 29-9 in the final frame.

Jazmine Spears led NAHS in scoring on the night with 19, while Kebrina Lucas had 17, Micha Washington 14 and Tierra Lucas added 11.

Hickory Flat was led on the night by Hannah Wilkerson and Shelby Teel with 19, Courtney Martin with 10 and Beth Allen with 11.

Saltillo 53

West Union 41 (g)

The Lady Eagles dropped another close contest, as Saltillo defeated West Union 53-41.

West Union held a one point, advantage, but Saltillo would respond in the second to take the 25-17 lead to the half.

Tia Coleman led the Lady Tigers with 15, while Carley Bryson added 12 in the winning effort, as Saltillo outscored the Lady Eagles 28-24 in the second half.

Carley Wilkerson led West Union in scoring with 10.

Myrtle 55 Ripley 46 (g)

Myrtle overcame an early deficit and held on for a nine-point win over Ripley, 55-46, on senior night.

Down 17-13 in the second, the Lady Hawks responded to take the one point, 31-30, lead to the half.

Outscoring the Lady Tigers 24-16 in the second half, Myrtle picked up their 25th win of the year.

Seniors Amber Williamson and Diana Suarez led Myrtle in scoring on the night, as Williamson posted 16 and Suarez added 12. Regan Hopper contributed with 12, followed by Keanna Cox with 10.

Ripley 79 Myrtle 37 (b)

Senior night was not pleasant for the Hawks, as Ripley defeated Myrtle 79-37.

Myrtle could not get their offense going, as they found themselves down 36-18 at the half. Ripley would post another 42 points on the Hawks in the second half, as they cruised for their 20th win on the season.

Beau Cummings led the Hawks with 14.

Acie Downs scored 20 for the Tigers,followed by Chase Lerossignol with 10.

Saltillo 84

West Union 42 (b)

The Tigers dominated Tuesday night, defeating West Union by 42, 84-42.

Jumping to an early 27-12 lead, Saltillo did not let up, as their defense held the Eagles to 15 points in the second half.

Kyle Taylor was the lone scorer in double figures with 12.

For the Tigers, Pregon Stables led with 16, Corry Hudson with 13, Cameron Robinson with 12 and Jon Michael Parker with 10.

Baldwyn 66

East Union 55 (b)

The Urchins made a run in the second half, but were unable to complete the comeback versus Baldwyn on senior night.

Down 46-28 at the half, East Union outscored the Bearcats 17-7 in the third to cut the deficit to 53-45 to start the fourth, but were unable to capitalize in the final quarter to overtake Baldwyn.

Gareth Pannell led East Union with 14, while Clay Armstrong added 12 and Ethan Roaton 10.

The Bearcats were led by Ian Burress with 19, Marcell Lucas with 17, Reggie Paterson with 12 and Andrew Shelton with 10.

Hickory Flat 55

New Albany 52 (b)

New Albany scored 29 in the final quarter, but were unable to top Hickory Flat Tuesday night.

The two teams remained even, as they were tied after the first quarter, and the Rebels took a one-point lead to the half.

Outscoring NAHS 14-9 in the third, the Bulldogs fell short of taking down the Rebels in the end.

Tadarous Codurn led New Albany with 14, while Kareem Brown added 10.

For the Rebels, Terry Lee scored 14, Calab Van Tassell 13, and Travis Bell and Zavion Adams each scored 12.

The week will end with the final two nights of the regular season. New Albany will face Center Hill for their senior night on Thursday, while Myrtle will travel to Ingomar for the Falcons’ senior night, West Union will host North Pontotoc for their senior festivities and East Union will travel to Hickory Flat.
